Wall-Mount Corian Mandir with Floating Shelves (Open Altar)
Some families prefer an open altar — the deity visible at all times, no door to open before aarti, no hinge between you and the idol. This wall-mount Corian mandir with floating shelves is designed around that preference. A primary floating deity plinth sits at comfortable eye height, two asymmetric floating shelves flank it above and beside for secondary idols or framed photos, and the whole assembly rides on a concealed steel cleat so nothing touches the floor. No door, no cabinet, no visual weight — just clean Corian lines and the deity front-and-centre. Hand-made in our Mumbai factory by Satguru Creations, continuously manufacturing Corian mandirs since 1975.
Which interiors this suits
Four fits read cleanly. Minimalist apartment — a single primary plinth and two floating shelves in Glacier White, plain square edges. Modern villa — stepped three-shelf arrangement in warm ivory, hairline gold fascia on the primary plinth. Contemporary Indian home — primary plinth with a carved kalash band at the front lip and pearl Corian. Open-plan condo abroad — slim plinth with mirror-finish backdrop that reflects the deity, two floating shelves, Glacier White. Because there is no door or cabinet, the visual footprint reads small — a 42 inch open-altar wall-mount feels less dominant than a 30 inch cabinet wall-mount.
Floating-shelf craftsmanship
Without a cabinet to hide hardware, every shelf has to be structurally honest — you can see under it. Our artisans build each floating shelf from 19 mm DuPont-grade Corian with a concealed steel flat-bar hand-bonded inside the shelf body during fabrication. The flat-bar exits the rear of the shelf as a clean steel tongue that slots into a wall-side French cleat. The tongue is invisible once the shelf is hung. Each shelf is rated 15 kg independently. The primary deity plinth is 19 mm Corian throughout with a 38 mm doubled front lip for visual weight — the plinth looks substantial even though its concealed steel support is hidden. The main cleat for the mandir body uses the same Z-section steel system as the rest of our wall-mount range, load-tested to 50 kg. All edges are hand-chamfered and every seam is hand-polished to disappear.
Material choice
DuPont-grade Corian only. The open-altar variant demands a seamless hand-polish finish more than any other wall-mount because nothing is hidden behind a door — every edge is a show edge. We polish every chamfer and every joint to a consistent gloss across the primary plinth and all shelves. Forty-plus sheet colours available; finishes in high-gloss, satin-matte or dual-tone.
Size specifications
Sizes describe the outer footprint of the assembly. Compact 24 inch W x 10 inch D x 30 inch H — one plinth, one shelf. Apartment 30 inch W x 12 inch D x 36 inch H — one plinth, two shelves. Standard 36 inch W x 14 inch D x 42 inch H — most-ordered. Large 42 inch W x 16 inch D x 48 inch H — stepped three-shelf. Premium 48 inch W x 16 inch D x 54 inch H. Primary plinth depth is always 14 inches or more to take a 12 inch idol with breathing space. Corian thickness 19 mm on all shelves and plinths for structural consistency.
Customisation
- Shelf layout: single plinth plus one shelf, primary plus two asymmetric, stepped three-tier, or custom grid.
- Plinth edge profile: square, chamfered, waterfall or doubled-lip for visual weight.
- Corian colour: any of 40-plus DuPont-grade sheet codes.
- Backdrop: none (raw wall), plain Corian backing, carved kalash band, or mirror panel.
- Finish: high-gloss, satin-matte or dual-tone.
- Lighting: optional warm-white LED under the primary plinth lip, or concealed halo behind each shelf.
- Motif: plain, om embossing, swastik, kalash band, or family-deity hand-carve.
Where this open variant excels
Minimalist 1-BHK apartment: the compact 24 inch plinth plus single shelf occupies almost no visual space, which is exactly what small homes need. Living-room statement wall: the large 42 inch stepped three-shelf reads as an art installation as much as a shrine, ideal for homes that entertain guests. Bedroom personal altar: the apartment 30 inch with a single plinth and a framed-photo shelf. Overseas condo: the standard 36 inch open-altar with mirror backdrop reflects light beautifully in open-plan condo layouts. Passageway shrine: the compact 24 inch floats in a corridor without projecting enough to obstruct the walkway — depth is only 10 inches.

Why Satguru Creations
We are the factory that started Corian mandir manufacturing in Mumbai — founded 1975, now run by the third generation of the founding family. Over 10,000 Corian mandirs delivered, 4.8 out of 5 from 291 verified reviews, 200-plus combined artisan-years. DuPont-grade Corian only, lifetime consultation guarantee, deliveries to 28 Indian states plus the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and Europe.
Team expertise
The open altar needs the hand-polish to be perfect — every edge reads. Six senior artisans, each with 15 to 30 years on acrylic solid surface, do that work personally. In-house Vastu-trained architects set the primary plinth height to the customer's eye line during aarti. Our production engineer programmes every CNC run, and the lead fabricator signs off the concealed steel shelf hardware before it is bonded into the Corian. Nothing is outsourced.

Frequently asked questions
Q: How does the floating shelf stay up with no visible bracket?
Each shelf carries a concealed steel flat-bar bonded inside the 19 mm Corian. The flat-bar exits the rear as a clean tongue that slots into a wall-side French cleat anchored into studs or masonry. Nothing is visible once hung.
Q: Will the open altar attract more dust than a door version?
Slightly, yes — any open shelf collects ambient dust. Corian is non-porous and wipes clean with a soft damp cloth in under a minute. Most open-altar customers prefer the look and accept the light weekly wipe.
Q: Can I upgrade to a door version later?
The primary plinth and shelves can remain, and we can fabricate a floating door cabinet below or around the existing assembly — matching Corian colour and hand-finish. We stock every sheet colour specifically so this kind of later-upgrade matches.
Q: How heavy a brass idol can the primary plinth hold?
The primary plinth is rated 25 kg (doubled steel flat-bar on the plinth's concealed support). That comfortably carries most domestic brass idols plus a diya tray. For a single very large brass idol we recommend confirming weight at consult so we can upgrade to the reinforced plinth.
Q: Are the shelf heights adjustable after install?
No — each French cleat is anchored at a fixed height determined at render stage. This is why we confirm idol heights and framed-photo sizes before cutting Corian. Shelf height is built for your specific deities, not a generic grid.
Q: Does the open altar ship flat-pack for export?
Yes. Each shelf ships as one numbered Corian piece with its matching French cleat and anchor kit. Overseas assembly typically completes in under two hours with our WhatsApp video walkthrough.
