Understanding Vikroli Homes What We Have Learned from Delivering Here

Vikroli has a character quite different from the western suburbs. The identity of the area was shaped by the Godrej group the massive industrial campus of Godrej and Boyce occupies a large part of Vikroli East, and the surrounding residential areas developed around it. Today, Vikroli has three distinct housing zones, each with different mandir requirements:

Godrej Colony and Surrounding Bungalows (Vikroli East)

The Godrej employee housing area and the residential streets around it include bungalows, row houses, and older apartment blocks with relatively generous floor plans. These homes often have a dedicated pooja room sometimes one that has housed a wooden mandir for 20 to 30 years.

  • Wooden mandir replacement: This is our most common project in this area. The existing wooden mandir has served the family for decades but now shows its age termite channels in the base, darkened surface from years of oil and kumkum, and loose joints from the humidity cycles of Mumbai. We visit your home, measure the exact footprint of the existing mandir, and manufacture a Corian replacement at our Chandivali factory that slides into the same space. No civil work, no repainting, no disruption to your pooja room setup. The new Corian mandir looks traditional but will never face the problems wood does in this climate.

  • Larger floor standing mandirs (5 to 6 feet tall): Bungalows and ground floor apartments with more room allow for substantial mandirs with traditional shikhar (dome) designs, multiple deity shelves at different heights, pull out diya trays, and deep storage drawers at the base for puja samagri. We have built mandirs in this area with hand carved peacock motifs, 3D Om panels with LED backlighting, and traditional pillar designs all in Corian that will outlast wood by decades.

LBS Marg Apartment Towers (Vikroli West)

The stretch of LBS Marg running through Vikroli has seen significant residential development in the last decade high rise towers with modern amenities and contemporary interior design. Apartments here are typically 2 to 3 BHK with open plan living areas and ceiling heights of 9 to 10 feet.

  • Contemporary mandir designs: Families in these newer apartments often want a mandir that fits the modern aesthetic clean lines, minimal ornamentation, and a focus on the material itself. Our minimalist Corian mandirs with a single dramatic backlit element (a translucent Om, a Gayatri Mantra panel, or a geometric mandala) work perfectly here. The mandir becomes a design element that enhances the room rather than contrasting with it.

  • Mandirs with doors for open plan layouts: When the pooja area is visible from the living and dining space, sliding or pocket door designs let you keep the mandir closed for a sleek and minimal look, and open it during puja time. Our pocket doors disappear completely into the mandir frame when open you would not know they exist.

  • Space efficient wall mounted options: For 2 BHK apartments where every square foot matters, a wall mounted Corian mandir (2 to 2.5 feet wide) with integrated LED backlighting creates a complete sacred space without touching the floor. It mounts at eye level on concealed brackets and includes a shelf and small tray for daily items.

Kannamwar Nagar and Tagore Nagar Societies

These two large housing complexes are among the oldest residential areas in Vikroli, built by MHADA. Apartments are compact typically 1 RK to 2 BHK and families here have strong daily puja traditions that have been maintained for generations. The challenge is fitting a meaningful mandir into a small space without making the home feel cramped.

  • Ultra compact wall mounted mandirs (1.5 to 2 feet wide): Our smallest designs, purpose built for compact homes. Mount at eye level in any room living room wall, kitchen entrance, or bedroom corner. Despite the small footprint, these mandirs include a properly proportioned deity shelf, a small diya and agarbatti area, and a subtle LED backlit panel that creates a devotional atmosphere when switched on in the evening.

  • Budget conscious options: We understand that not every family has a large budget for a mandir. Our compact Corian designs start from Rs 61,000 and since you are buying directly from the manufacturer (us), there is no dealer or middleman markup. The same mandir through a furniture store or decorator would cost 30 to 40 percent more. We also offer EMI payment options to make it more accessible.

Why Corian Matters Especially in Vikroli

The location of Vikroli on the eastern side of Mumbai means slightly different environmental conditions compared to the western suburbs. The area is lower lying, closer to the creek, and experiences heavier waterlogging during monsoon. Humidity levels in ground floor and lower floor apartments can remain above 85 percent for extended periods during June to September.

This makes material choice critical:

  • Wood in high humidity environments: Wooden mandirs in Vikroli face accelerated deterioration compared to even western suburb locations. We have replaced mandirs here that showed serious termite damage and joint failure within 5 to 7 years well below the 15 to 20 year lifespan you would expect in drier climates. The monsoon waterlogging raises ground level moisture, and termite activity peaks during and immediately after the rains.

  • Corian is completely moisture immune: It does not absorb water, does not swell, does not support fungal growth, and provides no food source for termites. A Corian mandir installed on the ground floor of a Kannamwar Nagar apartment will look and function identically to one on the 20th floor of an LBS Marg tower humidity makes zero difference to this material.

  • Stain proof for daily puja: The non porous surface of Corian means turmeric, kumkum, oil, camphor, and flower pigments cannot penetrate. Wipe with a damp cloth and it is clean. This matters for families who perform elaborate daily rituals your mandir stays pristine year after year without any special cleaning or maintenance.

  • Fire resistant: Daily diya and dhoop lighting is safe on Corian. The material does not ignite and does not release toxic fumes when exposed to heat. This is important for families with elderly members or young children in the home.

The Manufacturing Process What Happens After You Order

Every Corian mandir we build is custom manufactured at our Chandivali factory. Here is what the process looks like:

Design and Measurement

After our initial consultation (in person at our Display Center or via WhatsApp), we visit your Vikroli home to take precise measurements. We check wall dimensions, floor level, electrical points for LED wiring, natural light conditions, and the overall room layout. This visit typically takes 30 to 40 minutes. Based on this, we prepare a detailed design with dimensions, material specifications, and a firm quotation.

Manufacturing (4 to 6 Weeks)

Once you approve the design and make the advance payment (50 percent), production begins at our Chandivali factory. Your mandir goes through several stages CNC machining for precision cut panels and carved patterns, thermoforming for any 3D curved elements (domes, arches, pillars), hand finishing by our artisans for fine details, LED panel assembly and electrical testing, surface polishing, and final quality inspection. Each mandir is built by the same team from start to finish not on an assembly line so the craftsmanship is consistent throughout.

Delivery and Installation

We deliver to Vikroli directly from our Chandivali factory. Our installation team arrives with the mandir, all mounting hardware, and electrical components. They handle positioning, wall mounting or floor placement, LED wiring and connection, testing of all lighting modes, and cleanup. The entire installation takes 2 to 4 hours. We schedule at your convenience, including weekends and evenings.

Pricing Direct from Manufacturer

Our factory direct pricing eliminates the middleman markup that interior decorators, furniture stores, and online marketplaces add. What you pay is the manufacturing cost plus a fair margin nothing more.

  • Compact wall mounted (1.5 to 3 ft): Starting from Rs 61,000

  • Mid size with LED backlighting (3 to 4 ft): Rs 90,000 to Rs 1,20,000
