Craftsmanship — carving the deity panel

The deity panel on this mandir is routed in relief on a 19 mm Corian sheet — the deity forms stand proud of the background by 8 to 12 mm. Our Mumbai artisans then hand-chisel the fine features: crown jewels, Laxmi's lotus, Vishnu's conch, the bindu details on the palms. Background is sanded to satin and the deity forms are polished to high gloss, so light catches the deity first and not the wall. A concealed warm-white LED curtain (24 V, IP20, CRI greater than 90) sits in a recessed channel behind the deity panel with an opal diffuser, so the halo reads as a clean glow around the deity pair rather than a line of LED dots. Every Vishnu-Laxmi build is finished by one of our three senior carvers — the deity faces are too important to route and leave.

Material and finish

Built from DuPont-grade Corian in 40+ shade options. Deity panel is always 19 mm Corian to allow relief depth; the sanctum body is 12 mm standard or 19 mm premium. Corian is non-porous, so the deity carving does not trap kumkum, haldi or ghee residue. It does not crack along the fine crown lines the way marble does under carving stress. It does not yellow under constant LED backlighting. Unlike wood, it will not warp in Mumbai humidity or the dry heating of a USA / Canada winter home.
