Acrylic Home Temple with Pocket Doors and Drawers

Pocket doors are the quiet solution for pooja rooms tight on clearance — the door slides sideways into a concealed pocket in the carcass, so it never swings out into the room. This acrylic home temple combines that space-saving mechanism with a stack of soft-close drawers below the altar for daily pooja saman, a hidden compartment for the diya-oil bottle, and a clean gloss-white acrylic face that wipes down in seconds. Designed for modern apartments where every inch of clearance matters. Manufactured by Satguru Creations in our Mumbai factory — family-run since 1975 with 10,000+ mandirs delivered across India and four continents of export.

Design theme and style fit

Pocket-door pooja units suit four specific interior situations: (1) modern apartment with narrow walkway — a swinging door would hit the opposite wall; a pocket door does not; (2) contemporary Indian home — ivory acrylic with om-emboss on the pocket face, hidden drawers in matching finish; (3) compact 1-BHK or studio — the pocket door means the altar closes fully even with a sofa placed within a foot of the unit; (4) villa bedroom pooja corner — bedroom pooja units often need to close during sleep hours without any door swinging into the walkway. Pocket doors solve that cleanly.

Craftsmanship — pocket door engineering

A pocket door that jams within a month is a bad pocket door, so we engineer the mechanism carefully. Each pocket on this unit runs on top-hung sliding hardware with a concealed bottom guide, rated for years of daily use, with a soft-close damper that eases the door to a stop rather than slamming. The door face is gloss cast-acrylic on a lightweight plywood substrate, edge-banded in matching acrylic so the edge never splinters. Below the altar, drawers run on ball-bearing soft-close runners with concealed front-fix handles (or true handleless push-open catches on request). Every pocket and drawer is cycled at our Mumbai QC bench before crating — a pocket door that drags on day one will drag for its whole life.

Material and finish

Visible faces are UV-stable cast acrylic in the non-yellowing grade — cheap PVC-acrylic sheet would cloud within a year of diya warmth, which is unacceptable for a mandir. The carcass is 18 mm BWP plywood, fully sealed with moisture-resistant sealant so Mumbai humidity will not swell it. On our Corian line we use DuPont-grade solid surface — this acrylic variant is the lighter, lower-cost sibling made by the same hands. Against marble the piece is substantially lighter. Against timber it will not warp. Against generic PVC-acrylic temples in the market, the difference in clarity and colour retention is visible within the first 12 months of use.

Size specifications

Five standard sizes, all customisable to the inch. Compact 30" W x 18" D x 48" H — compact 1-BHK niche. Standard 42" W x 24" D x 66" H — most-ordered pocket-door spec. Large 54" W x 30" D x 78" H — dedicated pooja room. Premium 66" W x 36" D x 84" H — villa shrine with full pocket-door face. Temple-hall 78" W x 42" D x 96" H+ — extended family homes. Pocket depth (into the carcass) is 10–14" depending on door width. Acrylic face thickness 10 mm standard. Drawer bank 2, 3 or 4 drawers configurable under the altar.

Customisation — what you can change

  • Acrylic colour: glacier white, warm ivory, pearl grey, frost-translucent, gloss mirror.
  • Door count and split: single pocket, double pocket, or mixed (one pocket + one hinged).
  • Drawer bank: 2, 3 or 4 drawers, soft-close on ball-bearing runners, handleless push-open optional.
  • Hidden compartment: oil-bottle niche, agarbatti tray, spare-matches pull-out.
  • Deity panel: mirror-acrylic backdrop, printed family deity, or plain ivory.
  • Lighting: concealed warm-white LED in the altar niche, dimmable.
  • Finish: gloss face, matte face, or dual-tone gloss-doors + matte-plinth.

Space suitability

Compact 1-BHK or studio apartment: the compact 30" spec with pocket doors lets you place a sofa within a foot of the altar without the doors ever colliding. Apartment pooja room in a 2-BHK: the standard 42" spec is the most-ordered. Villa dedicated shrine: the premium 66" size with full-face pocket doors and a lit niche becomes a feature wall when open and a clean face when closed. Export USA / UK / Canada: pocket-door mandirs are popular overseas because Western apartments often have narrow rooms where a swing door is impractical. Community hall: the temple-hall size with four-drawer storage suits housing-society pooja halls.

Why Satguru Creations

Satguru Creations was founded in 1975 as Mumbai's first Corian mandir manufacturer. The acrylic line runs alongside the Corian line in the same workshop under the same senior artisans. 10,000+ mandirs delivered, 4.8/5 from 291 verified reviews, lifetime consultation guarantee, export to USA, UK, Canada, Australia and Europe. Pocket-door hardware, drawer runners and magnetic catches are all field-serviceable under the lifetime commitment — we do not walk away once the unit is installed.

Expertise

A pocket-door mandir is a small piece of precision furniture, not just decorative carving. The design is drawn by in-house Vastu-trained architects; CNC programming is in-house; door-hardware tuning is done by artisans with 15–30 years on acrylic and Corian cabinetry. A licensed electrician vets the LED circuit before every despatch. One family, three generations, one Mumbai workshop for both our Corian and acrylic ranges.

Order this mandir

WhatsApp +91 83693 35359 or use the Request Quote button. Share wall photos, preferred size, drawer count and any clearance limits (e.g. door swings into a corridor). We reply within four working hours with a 3D render and a fixed all-in quote.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Do the pocket doors ever jam?
Not if engineered correctly. We use top-hung sliding hardware with a concealed bottom guide and a soft-close damper. The mechanism is field-serviceable under the lifetime consultation guarantee.

Q: Is acrylic different from Corian?
Yes. Corian is DuPont-grade solid surface, heavier and seamless. This is high-grade cast acrylic on a sealed plywood carcass, lighter and more accessible. Same workshop, same artisans, same QC process.

Q: Will the acrylic yellow over time?
No. We use UV-stable cast acrylic in the non-yellowing grade. Cheap PVC-acrylic sheet clouds within about 18 months; this grade holds its clarity for years of daily pooja.

Q: What does the drawer bank hold?
The standard three-drawer bank holds daily pooja saman: diya-oil bottle, matches, agarbatti, flowers. The top drawer is shallowest for daily-use items, the bottom deepest for bulk storage. Soft-close on ball-bearing runners.

Q: Can I specify a particular pocket-door depth?
Yes. Pocket depth into the carcass is 10 to 14 inches depending on door width. Tell us your clearance on either side during consult and we spec accordingly.

Q: Can I install this myself abroad?
Yes. The export crate ships flat-packed with numbered parts, an assembly video and a printed guide. Most USA and UK clients complete install in two to three hours with basic tools.
