This is the compact pocket-door corian mandir we build for narrow apartment passages, kitchen-side alcoves and 1-BHK pooja niches where a swing door would foul the corridor and a sliding door would still protrude on the front face. The pocket panel slides cleanly into the side cavity, leaving a flush, dust-controlled shrine when open. The whole cabinet works inside a 24-inch footprint, so it fits where most mandirs do not. Design theme — which interiors it fits

This compact format suits four real living situations: (1) 1-BHK apartment passage — matte white Corian, plain door, single-side pocket; (2) open-kitchen homes — warm ivory cabinet with a closed door that disappears into the kitchen-cabinet visual line; (3) studio condominiums in USA / UAE — wall-mount 24-inch with pocket on the obstruction-free side; (4) contemporary minimalist interiors — pearl-grey Corian, no motif on the door, brushed handle slot. Because the open mandir takes the same footprint as the closed mandir, this size is safe to specify into corridor zones where building bye-laws restrict door swing.

Pocket door engineering — built for tight spaces

Compact does not mean compromised. The pocket runs a top-hung soft-close aluminium track with silent nylon rollers; the door self-cushions in the last 50 mm so it never slams in a draughty passage. The cavity opening carries a dust gasket — critical near a kitchen, where airborne oil and dust would otherwise settle on the hidden face of the door. The leading edge is hand-bevelled so the closed cabinet shows no proud edge or gap line. We mill the cavity 4 mm wider than the door so monsoon humidity cannot swell-jam the panel, and the door lifts out tool-free after a 200-cycle dry-run QC at the factory.

Material and finish

Built entirely in DuPont-grade Corian. Joints are chemically bonded and sanded flat — the cabinet appears moulded from a single piece. Corian does not yellow like budget PVC-acrylic sheets, does not warp like teakwood in coastal humidity, and is roughly half the weight of marble. Forty-plus sheet codes available; Glacier White and Warm Ivory are the most-ordered for compact homes because they reflect light and visually open the niche.

Q: How is the pocket door different from a regular sliding door?
A sliding door always sits on the front face of the cabinet. A pocket door slides into a side cavity and disappears, so the open shrine has a clean unbroken face. Better for narrow passages.

Q: Does the door fully hide when open?
Yes. The pocket is milled deeper than the door by 6 mm so the panel tucks completely inside. The cabinet edge looks intact even at full open.

Q: Will the pocket track jam in monsoon humidity?
